EVery frame considered”

Exhibit #1: Be a Part of the Tradition

Originally made for internal use as a pump up video to show the team in the locker prior to playoffs. It has been re-edited for recruiting purposes, and features a cameo from 1980 “Miracle on Ice” hero Mike Eruzione. The goal of this video is to promote the program’s heritage and tradition to recruits, hence the title: Be a Part of the Tradition.

I recorded myself skating on ice and breathing for sound effect purposes, and incorporated Michael Caine’s Interstellar narration of Dylan Thomas’s iconic poem, Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night.

Exhibit #2: Under Pressure

A recap compilation of the teams Hockey East Championship. Shown in the locker room the following week as part of preparations for the next round of playoffs.

As for all team recap videos, the coaches requested highlights of hits, blocks, and saves on top of goals, to promote team unity.

I used the Aftersun version of Under Pressure because this was an emotional moment, the pinnacle of the season. Juxtaposing the celebration with the climax of the song felt fitting for the experience.

Exhibit #3: Drew Commesso

An edit created for the team’s starting goaltender, US 2022 Olympian, and current NHLer Drew Commesso. Posted to his Instagram prior to the 2023 NCAA Frozen Four.

Drew and I collaborated closely for this project. He wanted to incorporate the vibes of the host city, Tampa Bay, into the DNA of the video. Hence the seagull sound effects towards the end.

Exhibit #4: On to Tampa

A recap of the NCAA Regional Championship. Shown in the locker room moments before the team departed for the NCAA Frozen Four.

As for all team recap videos, the coaches requested highlights of hits, blocks, and saves on top of goals, to promote team unity.

The magnitude of the moment is shown in this video with season and program highlights throughout. By showcasing the teams love for one another, the message of sticking together is reinforced for what would prove to be their biggest challenge.

Exhibit #5: Devin Kaplan

An edit created for Freshman Forward and NHL Draft pick Devin Kaplan. Posted to his Instagram during the second half of the season.

Being number 21, he wanted to use and incorporate 21 Savage’s song, Rich Flex, who’s focal point is literally the number 21.

Exhibit #6: BC Sucks

A recap of a weekend sweep against hated rivals Boston College. Shown in the locker room the following week as part of pre-game preparations.

As for all team recap videos, the coaches requested highlights of hits, blocks, and saves on top of goals, to promote team unity. For this video in particular I had to deal with limited video availability and quality, especially for these moments.

I tried to capture the energy of this moment by choosing the most badass song I could think of, as well as showing moments where the teams clash physically.

Exhibit #7: Screw BC

Shown to the team in the locker room directly prior to the first matchup of the season against hated rivals, Boston College.

This video was different because the coaches wanted to show this within hours of the game to the team. Therefore, I had to inject as much energy as I could using archival footage into a short timeframe.

Exhibit #8: More

This is a music video I made a couple of years back for my friend, using her original music.

I believe I have grown as a filmmaker and editor since then (I used way too many glitch effects), but I feel that this offers a strong synopsis of what I’m trying to achieve as a filmmaker: feeling, emotion, and visually unforgettable moments.

Footage is all mine, music courtesy of Karley Smith.
